Gatlinburg Recognizes Fantasy of Lights Parade Winners
GATLINBURG – The City’s Department of Tourism has recognized a prestigious group of entries in the 36th annual Gatlinburg Fantasy of Lights Christmas Parade as the best of the best in six specific categories. The Lumberjack Feud in Pigeon Forge captured first-place honors in three different categories. More than 100 parade entries including floats, helium balloons, marching bands, twirling groups, horse clubs, emergency units and rolling vehicles participated in the 35th annual Christmas parade on Friday, Dec. 2 in downtown. A crowd in excess of 75,000 spectators of all ages gathered for the popular parade, with the results of the judging as follows: Leconte Award (Best Professional Entry)- First – Ole Smoky Moonshine Distillery of Gatlinburg Second – Ober Gatlinburg of Gatlinburg Third – Park Vista – A Doubletree Hotel of Gatlinburg Mountaineer Award (Best Non-professional Entry) First – Lumberjack Feud of Pigeon Forge Second – Hatfield & McCoy Dinner Theater of Pigeon Forge Third – Tennessee Operation Lifesaver of Brentwood Best Marching Band First – T.C. Robertson High School of Asheville, N.C. Second – Asheville High School of Asheville, N.C. Third – Gordon Lee Marching Trojan Band of Chickamauga, Ga. Most Entertaining Unit First – Lumberjack Feud of Pigeon Forge Second – Ole Smoky Moonshine Distillery of Gatlinburg Third – Great Smoky Jellystone RV Resort of Cosby Best Use of Lights First – Lumberjack Feud of Pigeon Forge Second – Tennessee Operation Lifesaver of Brentwood Third (tie) – Titanic Museum of Pigeon Forge & Cabin Fever Vacations of Pigeon Forge Spur Award (Best Horse or Animal Group) First – Titanic Museum of Pigeon Forge Second – Mysterious Mansion of Gatlinburg Third – Linda Klingerman of Loudon The parade will also be aired on WBIR Channel 10 in Knoxville on Saturday, December 17 from 7 to 8 p.m., hosted by Russell Bivens and Beth Haynes. The parade will be rebroadcast on Christmas Day, Saturday, December 25 at 9 a.m. on Channel 10 as well. The Fantasy of Lights Parade won a Gold Award designation in the International Festival and Events Association Pinnacle awards for its television production from last year. The WBIR-produced parade will also air on 10 News2 at 10 p.m. on December 24, and twice on Christmas Day starting at 5 and 10:30 a.m. Also, the local production of the Christmas parade airs on Gatlinburg PEG Channel 4 on Charter Cable at 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday and at 7 p.m. on Fridays and Mondays through the Christmas holiday. Gatlinburg’s next big special event is its 24th annual New Year’s Eve Ball Drop and Fireworks Show at the Space Needle late on Saturday night, December 31. At the stroke of midnight on January 1, 2012, the Space Needle area will light up with a choreographed fireworks and music show. The event is free to the public and will feature music and party favors. The Titanic won best the Spur Award The Ole Smokey Moonshine Distillery won second place for most entertaining float. The T.C. Robertson High School Marching Band won the award for best marching band. The Limberjack Feud won three awards.
