Rod Loveday plans to bring his extensive management skills to the office of Sevier County Clerk.

Rod Loveday has always been community minded. A resident of the Kodak community, where he and his family attend the Crossing Church, Loveday has impacted the lives of many of the community's youth by coaching youth basketball in the county for past 30 years. He was one of the original founders that helped establish the Sevier County Junior Basketball League. He served as league president from 2008 to 2010, overseeing about 80 teams, their coaches and 800 youth. He spent numerous hours volunteering in the league.

"When kids from the county receive scholarships to play basketball at the college level, it makes it all worth it," Loveday said.

Loveday began a career in  management about 30 years ago at Harmon Automotive where he supervised 50 employees in three different departments. Later, the company promoted him to Plant Scheduler in charge of scheduling all departments.

After 12 years at Harman, Loveday  accepted a position as Material Manager at an automotive stamping and manufacturing plant in West Knoxville where he was responsible for negotiating the price and ordering raw material. When promoted to Plant Manager, as many as 100 employees worked under his supervision and sales increased to more than $10 million. Loveday gained experience in creating budgets, financial documents and bank transfers. He assisted in writing policy and procedures that lead to QS and ISO certification, which are worldwide quality systems that demand continuous improvement.

When the plant relocated to China and Mexico three years ago, during the middle of the biggest economic down turn in decades, The ever-resourceful Loveday  decided to go back to school after being in the workforce more than 30 years. He graduated last August with a 3.72 GPA and a degree in Web Design from Pellissippi State.

He decided to run for Sevier County Clerk because he felt his past management skill and technical training would be an asset to the office. During his campaign, he has stressed to voters he is a professional manager, not a politician.

“If elected I would conduct myself to the highest level of ethical standard and set an example for my staff. I would operate the clerk’s office as the professional governmental office that Sevier County taxpayers deserve. I would work on improving customer service and would investigate putting at least a part-time office in the Seymour area to provide better coverage to the whole county.

I would like to ask you for your vote in the upcoming election."
