Sevier County Detective Graduates Forensics Program

Another Detective from the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office has graduated from the U.T. Forensic Academy. Detective Johnny Bohanan graduated in the session 30 of the NFA on June 22nd 2012. The National Forensic Academy is an intensive 10-week (400 hour) training program funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance, designed to meet the needs of law enforcement agencies in evidence identification, collection, and preservation. The NFA is offered in-residence, utilizing curriculum developed by leading forensic practitioners from across the United States.
Participants are challenged in the various disciplines through classroom instruction, lab activities, and field practicals in the specialized courses. Academy participants will complete written and in-class competency exams to demonstrate mastery of the subject areas. The goal of the Academy is to prepare the crime scene investigator to recognize key elements and to improve the process of evidence.
Some of the area’s the students are trained in include; Bloodstain Pattern Analysis; Bombs, Booby Traps and Threats at the Scene; Crime Scene Management; Computer Sketching and Mapping; Courtroom Testimony; Criminal Investigative Analysis ; DNA; Firearms and Toolmark Identification ; Footwear and Tire Impressions; Forensic Fire Investigation ; Latent Fingerprint Processing ; Photography (Digital and Videotaping); Post-blast Investigation Postmortem Fingerprinting ;Serial Number Restoration ; Shooting Incident Reconstruction ; Trace Evidence; Death Investigation ; Forensic Anthropology
Bohanan is the 6th investigator from the Sevier Co. Sheriff’s Office to graduate from the program since its inception in 2001. Sheriff Ron Seals states that his goal is to continually seek training for his officers in the lasest technology and techniques available so they can better serve the community in solving crimes.
