Two Killed in Thursday's Storms
The roof from Ownby Hardware was torn off and hurled across the street in a storm Thursday.
Two people were killed Thursday when a violent storm swept through East Tennessee knocking down power lines and leaving more than 50,000 without electricity.
The tempest ripped the roof off Ownby Hardware on Main St. in Sevierville and hurled tons of debris on top of power lines next to the Sevier County Jail and Juvenile Detention Facility leaving the wreckage in between the two buildings..
According to a statement released by the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, a 41-year-old woman was killed during the storm in the Abrams Creek area. The victim was identified as Rachel Burkhart, 41, of Corryton. Burkhart was killed by falling tree.
A man died in a motorcycle accident that occurred at the intersection of Hwy 321 and Little River Road inside the park near the Townsend entrance. He was identified as Ralph Frazier, 50, of Buford, Georgia.
There were numerous campers in Cade's Cove that were trapped in the camp area due to hundreds of downed trees that blocked all roads in and out of the campgrounds.
There are also reports of multiple injuries as a result of the storm, the park service said. Ambulances were sent to Cades Cove for three injuries and one cardiac incident, according to a park news release. Three individuals in the Abrams Creek area were also injured.
More than 18,000 Sevier Countians were among those that lost electricity.

Numerous trees were snapped like twigs. This is the Carl Rogers farm on Snapp Road.

This barn on the Carl Rogers farm was one of several that lost a roof due to high winds.
