Traffic Stoppages on Highway 66 to Continue
Phase 1 – Nichols Street to Boyds Creek Highway:
The contractor, Blalock and Sons Construction, will continue conducting the 5 minute stoppages on SR-66 Monday (2/14) through Friday (2/18) between 9am and 3pm from King Street to Boyds Creek Highway mainly for moving equipment and materials in and out of the work zone.
The work that was accomplished on Phase 1 this week included lowering a water line along Royal Heights Drive, excavating Helicopter Ride Boulevard down to grade, and constructing concrete driveways and sections of curb and gutter. AT&T also continued relocating overhead telephone lines.
Phase 2 – Douglas Dam Road (SR-139) to south of the I-40 Interchange:
The contractor will continue the 5 minute stoppages, as needed, on SR-66 Monday (2/14) through Friday (2/18) between 9am and 3pm from SR-139 to I-40 for movement of equipment and materials in and out of the work zone. Traffic on S.R.139 may also be stopped or restricted temporarily throughout each day as crews receive materials for the box culvert extensions and utility work along Douglas Dam Road.
The work that was performed on Phase 2 this week included continued work on the box culvert extensions at Swaggertys (both inlet and outlet), work on water and sewer relocations, spot grading for the new electric poles, the pump down of the big pond was completed, excavation on the major cut slopes continued, and work on the box culvert between Days Inn and Krystal commenced.
If you have any questions regarding the project, please call MACTEC Engineering and Consulting at 865.429.4509. Enjoy the great weather forecasted for this weekend. As always, please use extreme caution and reduce speed through the work zone.
