SEVIER COUNTY – The Sevier County Public Library Genealogy & History Center will offer free of charge basic genealogy classes for the novice genealogist at the Seymour Branch and Kodak Branch Libraries. The classes are designed to teach the basics of tracing a family line. Call Theresa Williams at (865) 908-7988 the day prior to the meeting you wish to attend so that materials can be reserved in your name.

SEVIER COUNTY – The Sevier County Public Library System offers computer classes each month for beginning learners to computer users with basic skills wishing to become more proficient. Classes in basic computer skills, creating Web pages, in addition to making and using folders will be the focus for the August schedule. Basic keyboarding, mouse skills, windows and file structure are prerequisites for all of the classes excluding the Basic Computer Skills Classes.   

·         Creating Web Pages at the Seymour Branch Library, 137 W. Macon Lane on Monday, August 18 from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m.

·         Basic Computer Skills at the Sevier County Main Library, 321 Court Avenue on Thursday, August 21 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.

·         Tech Bytes: Making and Using Folders (lunch included) at the Sevier County Main Library, 321 Court Avenue on Friday, August 22 from 12:00 – 1:30 p.m.

All classes are limited to eight participants and the cost of each class is $10.00 per person. Pre-registration and pre-payment is required by the Friday preceding the class. SEVIERVILLE - Walters State's Rel Maples Institute for Culinary Arts will offer special courses fall semester in Cajun cooking, smoking and grilling, holiday hors d'Oeuvres and holiday baking. These one-hour credit courses meet on Tuesday evenings. The courses may be audited if college credit is not desired. Cajun Cooking will introduce Creole and Cajun cooking, with students learning to prepare many of the foods that made New Orleans famous. This class meets 6-9 p.m. on Aug. 26, Sept. 2, 9, 16 and 23. Smoking and Grilling will teach different methods of grilling and smoking meats and vegetables. In addition to cooking methods, the class will cover how the choice of wood can change the flavor. The class meets 6-9 p.m. on Sept. 30, Oct. 7, 14, 21 and 28. Holiday Hors d'Oeuvres and Party Plans will share the techniques and shortcuts used by caterers in party planning. Students will leave with the skills needed to make any party successful including organization, food and ambiance. This class meets 6-9 p.m. on Nov. 4, 11, 18, 25 and Dec. 2. Baking for the Holidays is scheduled for 6-9 p.m. on Nov. 4, 11, 18, 25 and Dec. 2. Students will learn how to make a variety of breads and desserts. No prerequisites are needed for the classes. The cost of each course is $133 for in-state students plus a $35 supply charge. Students must register by Aug. 22.
