KNOXVILLE - On Saturday, October 30, 2010, spend Halloween at The Bijou. Tickets to see the classic horror film Friday the 13th are $6.00, and tickets to a special Ghost Tour hosted by the East Tennessee Paranormal Society are also $6.00. A combination ticket to both events will be available for $10.00. However, there will be limited space for the ghost tour. Tickets AVAILABLE NOW via the Tennessee Theatre box office, all Tickets Unlimited outlets, by phone at 865-656-4444 or online at KnoxBijou.com.

There will be a special 8:00 p.m. screening of the slasher classic Friday the 13th before the ghost tour begins. The Bijou Theatre has a long history of supernatural activity. Join the East Tennessee Paranormal Research Society as they guide you through a tour of the theatre's most haunted spots. Doors open at 10:00 p.m. and tours begin at 10:30 p.m. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

ABOUT THE FILM

The original Friday the 13th was produced and directed by Sean S. Cunningham who had previously worked with filmmaker Wes Craven on The Last House on the Left (1972). Cunningham, inspired by the success of John Carpenter's Halloween (1978) wanted Friday the 13th to be shocking, visually stunning, and "[make] you jump out of your seat".

According to Wiki, the first film was meant to be "a real scary movie", and at the same time make audiences laugh. The concept for Friday the 13th began as nothing more than a title. "Long Night at Camp Blood" was the working title Victor Miller was using while he drafted a script, but Cunningham believed in his "Friday the 13th" moniker and rushed to place an advertisement in International Variety.

Worried that someone else owned the rights to the title, and wanting to avoid potential lawsuits, Cunningham thought it would be best to find out immediately. Cunningham commissioned a New York advertising agency to develop his visual concept of the Friday the 13th logo, which consisted of big block letters bursting through a pane of glass.
